so we did are exams yesterday and today the fetch on the ground probably isn't in high enough distractions. But are ROJ is a example of what not to do and don't do in the house because!!!! But it's very entertaining and will make you laugh
'Fetch on ground' IS RoF (Retrieve on Flat). GOOD handling Loni. But geez girl, you pushed the limit on this EXAM. The distance was LONG, the ground surface had dappled sunlight (incredibly hard on a dog to see), and you threw parallel to the ground. When you are doing the RoF, even RoHJ, you want the db to go UP into the air, so the dog can 'mark it', and then it falls to the ground.
So, you added some VERY tough 'factors', the term we use as AKC Hunt Test Judges when we set up a Test as the 'factors' are what make the test challenging. Me? I just call them 'distractions'.
Just one handler pointer. When she clamps her mouth on db, after you are tapping it, reward her for tightening her grip by saying softly, "Good HOLD". That will reinforce her doing it correctly as she must be rewarded for doing it correctly.
OH, the 'Swing'? Corbin, please take note how Loni did this Swing and memorize the mechanics as Loni did it perfectly.
In the 2nd RoF, you, Loni, were a noticeably CCC and PIC handler. In particular, I appreciated the RoF being done from different positions and applauded the Heel done on the short side of the Place Board. Sure made a difference in Shadow's Sit!! Also, you ceased throwing your left arm out as you commanded, "Fetch" towards the end of the 2nd video. THAT is perfect handling.
You are pushing Shadow's limits working her in such dappled sunlight and ground, but she totally believes you that "You said what you meant and meant what you said."
Oh the RoHJ - geez! How in the world did you avoid hitting that gorgeous glass china cabinet when tossin the db? My heart was in my mouth watching this fiasco unfold. And Redd was in a perfect Sit staring intently at EVERYTHING that was happening. I swear I heard her gasp the first time the HJ fell over-:) Please drape a white sheet or something OVER the top of the HJ as that is what Shadow will see in the ring. And she MUST know the difference between "Jump" (which is HJ) and "Bar" which is the bar jump where she can see under the bar. So fix that oversight now to train her for success later.
Also, AGAIN, the verbal sequence IS "Jump-Fetch-Jump". Don't shortchange her understanding of those commands linked together as she'll need it for future advanced training. And don't shortchange yourself being consistent in the sequencing of the exercises I teach you. As a future Instructor, you MUST know the sequence of commands and be able to teach them in the correct order. Nothing added. Nothing taken away. Just follow what I teach you to do and success is yours and Shadow's to enjoy together.
